Andrea Slappey, Principal Designer 

The sophisticated aesthetic of Amalia Designs is greatly influenced by the unique sensibilities and personal experiences of principal designer Andrea Slappey. "The vision and inspirations for Amalia Designs are drawn from my own life - especially the people, places, and things I remember from childhood," reminisces Andrea.  "Shells collected along the beaches at St. George Island - each a spectacular sculpture of nature, the bright red tomatoes in crates and the savory smell of tobacco barns in North Florida farm country, and the colorful rocks of Western Colorado are all among my fondest memories which are interpreted in many of my designs."

With an interesting and varied background in art history, psychology, religion, spirituality, sculpture, and metalsmithing, Andrea finds crafting her creations to be an inspired process, and her work often expresses subtle symbolism motivated by her surroundings and the materials at hand. “Working with fine metals is transformative. The process is tactile, meditative and rhythmic. For me, creating each sculptural piece is an exercise in being grounded and feeling connected to the elements.” The results of this organic process are designs redolent of the cool refinement and nonchalant elegance that embodies Amalia Designs.
